Harrach in lead after day one, Janota is second
In the early parts of Historic Rallye Vltava 2011 the favorites are on top. Experienced Austrian Ernst Harrach with Mitsubishi Lancer 2000 Turbo won all four SS and is in the lead. Czech Miroslav Janota is currently second with a solid headstart. On the other hand, fast Finns Veikkanen and Liukkonen can’t get things going are out of the triumph hunt. Not even drizzly weather could stop Ernst Harrach and Leopold Welsersheim who are currently the best pair of the 20th Historic Vltava Rallye. Their Mitsubishi Lancer 2000 Turbo manufactured in 1981 works very well and so does the teamwork of the newly formed pair. Czech Miroslav Janota with his Opel Kadett Coupe is second and almost half a minute behind the Austrian. Janota’s co-driver Pavel Dresler says: “We fulfill the plan. Our main task is to win the European Championship in category 2, so we don’t care much about the gap between Harrach and us. The second place pleases us, our biggest rivals are behind us.” Janota’s biggest rival is Italian Parisi, his time is more than three minutes worse than Janota’s.
German Schewe with Porsche 930 started really well, but was too fast in third SS and withdrew from the rallye after riding off the road. Great times and then long time in a side-ditch Soběšice test, those are the similarities between German Hanibach and Finn Liukkonen. His Nordic compatriot Veikkanen was unlucky even sooner, his Porsche 911 made problems during Klatovy circle, so the Finn withdrew too. After troubles with their cars Belgian Vanderspinnen and Czechs Klokočník and Horčík are also out.
Irish Frank Cunningham introduced himself with making a mistake in the top of Klatovy circle. But then is started raining what are the common conditions for Cunningham and his Ford Escort Mk II. Between him and fourth Pasutti from Italy with another Porsche 911 is more than a minute gap. In terms of European Championship category 1 Pagella from Italy is in the best position. Janota leads the Czech championship, Jan Krejča with Skoda 130 LR is second, Tomáš Belohradský with BMW 318 iS is third and Josef Michal and his Porsche 911 are fourth.
